Farm Day at Oakridge Dairy!

Posted May 2, 2024 at 8:20 AM

Every year, Oakridge Dairy and The Modern Milkman, hosts a Farm Day and Touch a Tractor event. This year the event is SATURDAY JUNE 29 from 10AM to 2 PM. It is a great chance to bring the general public together with local dairy farms to see how milk is processed and what we do on a day to day basis. It also gives the farm a chance to debunk misleading interpretations about dairy farms.

The Modern Milkman works with other Connecticut farms to bring you fresh food, including bread, baked goods, and dairy. You can set up a weekly delivery for fresh farm milk from Oakridge Dairy and other dairy products and baked goods from local farmers.

Giving Back to the Community

As part of Oakridge Dairy’s Farm Day, we request that you bring a non-perishable food item. We will donate all items to local food pantries. This is just one of the ways Oakridge Dairy and The Modern Milkman give back to the community.

Another way we give back is more indirect: We keep up with all the new technology to make our farm as sustainable as possible. One of those technologies is an anaerobic digester, which helps keep the smell down and converts methane into usable fuel.

Dairy farms use a lot of electricity. Another way we give back to the community is to decrease our electricity usage. We have 752 solar panels on our dairy cow barn – they offset 25 percent of our yearly electricity consumption. We also use the most efficient fans, lights, pumps, and other equipment.

Finally, we grow all the food we feed the cows, so we know what goes into the milk you buy from Oakridge Dairy. Our cows also drink well water – not city water with all kinds of chemicals.

We believe in the old-school values and farming traditions because they work. But we also believe in helping the community and the world by being sustainable and providing our cows with room to roam and the best food and water possible. It all goes to the quality of the milk.

What You Will See at Farm Day

Our farmer friends bring their tractors for you to see and climb on. You will be able to observe the cows getting milked and see a glimpse inside of the main dairy barn. As well as, learn all about modern day dairy farming at vendor booths, enjoy a cold moo brew free of charge, and explore the various food vendors that will be attending.

See you there! Saturday June 29th from 10 am to 2 pm.
